week 1This Monday we went to Woodland Terrace for the first time during class. We got a tour of the assisted living home and met with some of the seniors that will be partaking in the project. We also talked about logistics and our schedules with Caralee, and made sure everything was good to go for the project. Next time, I'll get to meet the senior I was paired up with and we'll get to start the project! I am so excited to make a new friend and learn some great advice from the elderly. The long class period Wednesday, we were planning on volunteering at Canine Castaways. But Shelly wasn't going to be there, so Cara, Jocelynn, and I reached out to Caralee to go meet with our seniors. The senior I was paired up with is Sally. She is 85 years old and she was born in 1939. She is so sweet and nice and has so many stories to share with me! We were able to fill out a good amount of questions in the book, but we were mainly just getting to know each other and enjoy each other's company. I really enjoyed talking with Sally and I can't wait to hear more of her life lessons and stories. We will be going back Monday and I am looking forward to it! week 2This Monday, we continued our project with Woodland Terrace. We have decided to go there every class period Monday & Friday, and some Wednesdays if we aren't going to the shelter. Sally and I met this week and we got a couple pages of questions done in her book. She has so many wonderful stories to tell me! On Friday we went to Woodland Terrace to continue our project, but Sally wasn't able to make it due to doctor's appointments. Instead of meeting with Sally, I sat with Jocelynn and her senior, Linda, while I helped fix one of the other group's "Life Journey" books. Linda is so sweet and I enjoyed hearing her stories too! I'm looking forward to seeing Sally next week and am hoping her doctor's appointments went well. weeks 3-5These past few weeks we have been going to Woodland Terrace every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (if our schedule allows). I have learned so much about Sally and have heard many amazing stories. I have also gained some very helpful advice. Sally has told me to travel whenever I get the chance and to stay in close contact with my friends and family. She has seen many countries like China, Ireland, Europe, and Italy. Sally and I still have many questions left in her book, but we like to enjoy the time together while she tells me her stories! Sally has also learned quite a bit about me, and we have became very close. When we got back from spring break a couple weeks ago, I gave her some seashells that I got from the beach. She absolutely loved them! The next time I saw Sally, she had a beaded bracelet for me. She is so sweet!

We recently had a meeting with a caregiver, Caralee, from Woodland Terrace who reached out to Mr. Large, asking if some of the service learning students would be interested in doing a project with the seniors at the assisted living home. Cara, Jocelynn, and I agreed to going to Woodland Terrace every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday to do the project with the elderly! The project we are doing with them is filling out a life journey book for them and their family. We will be paired up with a senior, interview them, write down their answers in the book, and spend time with them! We are so excited to be able to take part in this new project!
